Mount Isa

Built around a vast silver, copper, zinc and lead mine, Mount Isa's ancient landscape also offers glimpses into the past through indigenous culture and fascinating dinosaur fossils dating back 30 million years. This Outback base is a good starting point to explore the western edge of Queensland or even off into the Red Centre, and gives an authentic flavour of life away from the coast. The Mount Isa Rodeo, whose events include rope and tie, team roping, bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, barrel riding and saddle bronc, is a true Aussie event!
